Vic: Policeman at centre of inquest reinstated to the force
A Victorian policeman at the centre of an inquest into the death of a schizophrenic
patient has regained his job after he was sacked from the force in May.
Senior Constable SCOTT NELSON CHEASLEY was sacked from the force on charges unrelated
to the inquest.
The sacking came one month after a coroner heard how he had allegedly punched 43-year-old
GREGORY DAVID COUPER, pinned him to the floor in a judo hold and handcuffed him.
A police spokesman has confirmed that Sen Const CHEASLEY won back his job before the
Police Appeals Board, an independent body, on August 16.
He was dismissed from the force on disciplinary grounds by Assistant Commissioner GEORGE
DAVIS over weapons charges which were not related to the inquest.
The weapons charges came after police found at least 20 weapons at his home including
a samurai sword, knuckle-dusters and Rambo-style knives.
He pleaded guilty to the charges, but appealed against being sacked from his job.
Meanwhile, the inquest into COUPER's death before coroner NOREEN TOOHEY, continues tomorrow.
